How to get more Google reviews for your plumbing or roofing business

Reviews are the strongest free signal in local search, and most contractors leave them on the table. Here is a system that actually gets them.

Two things are true about reviews. They are one of the biggest factors in whether you show up in the map pack and whether a homeowner picks you over the contractor next to you. And almost every plumber and roofer we meet is leaving them to chance.

"Chance" means you get a review when a customer is unusually thrilled or unusually angry. The steady stream that actually moves the needle requires a system - but the system is simple.

Why reviews matter more than the star count

It is not about a perfect five. A homeowner trusts twenty recent, specific reviews far more than two hundred old ones or a flawless score that looks too clean. Google feels the same way. Recency and specificity beat volume and perfection. "Replaced our water heater same day, clean and on time" does more than "great service."

The system that actually works

  1. Ask at the moment of relief. The best time is the second the job is done and it worked - the leak stopped, the roof is whole. Wait until the next day and the feeling fades. Ask while it is fresh.
  2. Make it one tap. Do not say "look us up on Google." Text a direct review link. Every extra step loses people. The easier you make it, the more you get.
  3. Have the tech ask, with the owner's link. The person who did the work asking face-to-face, then a text with the link before they pull away, converts far better than an email a week later.
  4. Give a reason and a nudge. "It really helps a small local business like ours" works. People help when they understand it matters.
  5. Respond to every review. A short thank-you on the good ones, a calm professional reply on the bad ones. Future customers read how you handle the worst review more closely than the best.

What not to do

  • Never buy reviews or post fake ones. Google catches it, and the penalty is worse than having few reviews.
  • Do not offer a discount for a review. That violates Google's rules and can get your reviews stripped.
  • Do not batch-blast old customers. A pile of reviews appearing in one day looks engineered. A steady weekly trickle looks real - because it is.

How your website helps

Pull your best Google reviews onto the site so they work twice - once in search, again when a homeowner is deciding. A review widget that updates automatically keeps the social proof fresh without you touching it. The Google profile collects the reviews; the site puts them in front of the visitor a referral or the map sent over.

We can wire a live review feed into your site and set up the request flow as part of a build, so getting and showing reviews becomes part of how the business runs instead of something you keep meaning to start.
